Based on the alleged relationship shared between Bakelite heir Antony Baekland and his mother, socialite Barbara Daly Baekland, the film features as its centrepiece a provocative threesome featuring Eddie, Julianne and co-star Hugh Dancy - the real-life husband of Homeland star Claire Danes. Dancy is later seen sleeping soundly while Julianne laughs hysterically by his side. The film was too in love with its own glittering images for critics at the time: In the New York Times , A. The trepidation may well still be with her: Still Alice , despite the challenge it presents Moore, is pretty safe; Alice is unimpeachably virtuous, and her downfall is entirely tragic. These movies take pleasure in depicting suffering, too—just in a different, more easily awardable fashion.
The story is based on the dysfunctional, allegedly incestuous relationship between heiress and socialite Barbara Daly Baekeland and her son, Antony. The film is based on the true story of Barbara Daly Baekeland Moore , her husband Brooks Baekeland Dillane , heir to the Bakelite plastics fortune, and their only child Antony Redmayne , who was diagnosed with schizophrenia. Critics gave the film mixed reviews. Peter Bradshaw writing in The Guardian gave the film four out of five stars, describing it as "a gripping, coldly brilliant and tremendously acted movie. After the film opened, Baekeland's former lover, Samuel Adams Green played by Dancy in the film , wrote an article pointing out that elements in the film were factually inaccurate. It is true that almost 40 years ago I did have an affair with Barbara, but I certainly never slept with her son
